I know this message board is a free one, but some of the web banners that appear are a bit dodgy - especially the 'Evony' one (didn't even check the link ..... not at work anyway)

Yes this could be a problem for the younger league members. The best way to avoid this problem is to pay for the forum or change to a PHPBB3 format.

I offered a new board, PHPBB + free hosting last season
I was turned down as it was deemed too complicated Shocked in favour of this

You can't get a better offer than free.

We had the same problem on the Wolverhampton Wheelers Forum last year with unsuitable adverts. http://wolverhamptonwheelers.hostingdelivered.com/index.php

I setup a new one with which is free and has no adverts. I used this company:

http://www.hostingdelivered.com/index.hs

Quite happy to set it up for the league.

I can host a message board. Do a few clubs at the moment.

Would take a week to set up. Other than that, no ongoing costs or admin.

It would be on my servers so no unwanted ads of any kind.

Offers that can not be refused.

In the interest of "protection", a good idea which should not be overlooked or turneddown.

We at Stourbridge CC can also offer help, if required, we have plenty of website space and spare databases to host a better forum with phpBB3. We (or the league) will have 100% ownership & control, can decide how to present it, customise it, appoint administrators and moderators with whatever permissions are needed. I can set it up quickly, at no cost.
Also, instead of one big message board, it can be split into different topics eg "sales & wants", "championship events", "national 'cross events" etc. to save all users trawling through stufff that is of no interest to them.
You can see ours here as an example - pretty well the same as Wolv. Wheelers: http://www.stourbridgecyclingclub.com/Board/index.php
