PostSubject: Inter-Area jersey question   Mon Nov 02, 2009 10:43 am

Hi...can anyone tell me why the West Mids riders were riding in different colours yesterday. Why do the 'adult' riders get red jerseys and with the regions name on it (sponsored by buildbase), and the youth get some bland grey things with not even a mention of who they're riding for. Doesn't the region have a registered colour for all it's riders. These sorts of things aren't very expensive to sort out. For example, the yorkshire guys even had long sleeve tops for warming up in....looked very smart.

I hoped for a more subtle answer but I guess you're correct. Seriously, this isn't particularly expensive when you consider the growth of the sport in the region and the sheer amount of youth riders coming through...isn't this an investment in the identity of the region through it's riders ?

Money is the reason I'd suggest , but we did manage to share them around before - not ideal when a youth has got it all sweaty and muddy to then pass it to a senior rider to wear Mad

Just be thankful you didn't live through the days of the pink skinsuits which the North West used to wear. I wore one once as a junior, and then the same one again nearly 15 years later affraid

I guess for one race a year its probably not cost effective, gone are the days of the development squads that use to be entered as a team, certainly on the road.

Should you wish to get you area kitted out though Id be more than willing to give you a quote

There's only 1 cross race a year where these are required, but there are other races where regional youth teams are represented ? I feel an email coming on....BTW...thanks for the offer.

Your question is a valid one Foxy. And whereas before it probably came down to cost, now I think it comes under the banner of 'appropriate planning'. That is to say that the provision of jerseys should now come under the new criteria outlined.
As Mark says: there was a point where we all wore red, however that only came about because we shared the jerseys (not good).
This year, Gordon was good enough to get some new yerseys, however like you say, the colour scheme could be looked at, and as regards the use the jerseys would get, I know for a fact they are used in other events.
Adrian.
