“THE FRED WILLIAMS SCRAMBLE”

This weekend’s round 7 of the Cult Racing/West Midlands Cyclo Cross league organised by Andy Jones of Wolverhampton Wheelers CC/Fred Williams Cycles has been moved to Baggeridge Country Park,
A463 Sedgley.

The event is sponsored by Fred Williams Cycles, Wolverhampton has a prize list in excess of £800 spread across all the categories.

Racing starts with the U10’s event 10:15am. This venue has only been used for a few years for cyclo cross but has already become a popular course amongst riders.

The circuit offers some fast racing as well as some tricky and tough riding along the route of the mountain bike trail and some technical sections through the woods. The park has a natural amphitheatre for the start and finish area and two thirds of the circuit can be viewed from the highest point making it great for spectators.

I walked the circuit with the dog last Sunday afternoon and despite the heavy rain earlier in the day much of the track was still very firm. There were some sections of the rare thing called mud but all of it ride able. However rain has fallen again today and more is forecast so things could change but the ground in the park does drain well.

The circuit will use much of the same paths and grassland that have been used for previous events at the park with a few minor variations. There will be pits area where riders will pass twice and gives a good view for the pit crews of the course.

Please remember to put the £1:20 in the car park meters.

Walked the course this morning.

Lot more water on the ground than last weekend.

The open grass areas are wet but don't think they will cut up too much because the surface underneath is quite hard. Tried to create a course that will allow for fast flowing racing. Some areas of mud at the bottom of the MTB track and in the woods. Lots of leaves but we have brushed a lot of them of some areas of the course. Stronger riders should be able to ride everything!!! Just Evil or Very Mad

It is Remeberence Sunday and we will have a 1 minute silence before the Vets/Junior/Womens race.

Please remember the park is used by a lot of families for Sundays walks so take care.
